In this series of Q&As, we get to know our Open Banking Expo Awards judges.

Huw Davies, co-founder and chief executive officer of Ozone API, who is judging the Awards for the first time this year, explains why it’s important to recognise the industry’s achievements.

1. What do you enjoy most about being part of the Open Banking Expo Awards judging panel?

Being a judge provides a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how the industry is both innovating and evolving. It’s fascinating to witness how different businesses tackle the same challenges with fresh and creative solutions.

Open Banking is still an industry in its formative stages and that tends to mean diverse and interesting ideas and approaches. As a judge, I’m privileged to see different entries and, also, debate and discuss with other judges.

2. What is most exciting you about this year’s entries?

I’m particularly thrilled to see Variable Recurring Payments (VRP) finally becoming a reality after years of discussion. This is very close to my heart as I led the development of VRP and the first pilots in the UK.

3. Why is it so important to recognise the achievements of companies and individuals within Open Banking, Open Finance and payments?

A rising tide floats all boats and in an exciting new industry space like Open Finance, there is a huge amount of opportunity to grow the economy and act as a force for good.

Celebrating success stories encourages others to push the boundaries, accelerating progress that benefits both the economy and society as a whole.
