New Zealand-based Pay by Bank app Volley has integrated with Westpac NZ to enable the bank’s customers to pay Volley “requests” via Open Banking APIs.
Individuals can use the Volley app to make payment requests to friends and family members, as well as pay them, with payment made directly from the person’s banking app.
The merchant version, ‘Volley for Business’, is designed to enable merchants and businesses to accept Pay by Bank transfers via payment links, add QR codes to invoices, or pay from a web or app checkout.
Once the bilateral agreement between Volley and Westpac NZ comes into effect, users of Volley will be able to approve payments to friends or businesses on Volley with the Westpac One mobile app on their phone.
The integration makes use of Payments New Zealand’s standardised APIs for payment initiation.
According to Volley, it takes a total of 10 seconds to make a payment via the app.

“Open Banking lets us integrate with your bank directly, without techniques like screen-scraping that ask for your password and are a big security and fraud risk. With Volley, you’re in control of each and every payment in your bank app.”
Volley, which is also available with Bank of New Zealand, having announced the collaboration in July last year, is in beta testing.
McCann added: “We’re really excited to be able to offer Volley to more bank customers and put the app in the hands of consumers later this year.”
Westpac NZ’s chief information officer, Russell Jones, said: “Open Banking has the potential to provide far-reaching opportunities for customers to manage their money in new ways, from plugging into budgeting tools to splitting the cost of a meal in a quick and easy fashion.
