Who are we?
As Open Banking evolves into Open Payments and Open Finance, diversity in talent is not just beneficial - it's essential. The products and services of the future must resonate with the society they serve. Recognising this, Open Banking Expo launched Women in Open Banking (WIOB), an inclusive initiative aimed at empowering women in the Open Banking space.
Since its inception, WIOB has grown to include more than 600 members across the globe, with over 60 active mentor/mentee relationships. We host Meetups in key financial hubs such as London and Toronto, offering valuable opportunities for networking, learning, and professional growth. These events include drinks receptions, panel debates, and professional speakers, bringing together leading voices in the industry.
WIOB’s mission is to supercharge the careers of all those who identify as women, ensuring that their voices are heard as we shape the future of Open Banking and Open Finance. With the support of partners like American Express and Yaspa, we aim to cultivate a space where diverse talent can thrive.
The initiative and its members aim to:
Lead the change in gender parity in Open Banking and Open Finance
Offer insights, skills and inspiration to supercharge women’s careers in the sector
Accelerate professional development through impactful mentoring relationships

“The Yaspa team have been enthusiastic members of the Women in Open Banking (WiOB) initiative from its beginning, and we're delighted to be supporting it as a Partner. We have always been proud of the gender balance amongst our employees, and as we grow, we are very conscious of wanting to maintain our broad diversity and lovely culture. I hope that our involvement with WiOB will help us do so over the year to come, whether as recruiters, mentors, mentees, or role models.”

“American Express is thrilled to partner with Open Banking Expo on this vital initiative. Women in financial services have continuously faced challenges when it comes to being recognised or given opportunities to advance their careers. Gender equality at all levels across the business is at the core of American Express’ culture and we have made huge progress in the number of women in senior management roles, and the range of different perspectives and experiences they offer.”
Holly Coventry, Vice President, International Open Banking Payments at American Express

“Sadly, women still form the majority of the under-represented groups across financial services. With Women in Open Banking, we hope to change the odds by helping remove barriers to entry, accelerate growth and personal development through impactful mentoring opportunities, and to ultimately make Open Banking and Open Finance the industry of choice for future leaders and change makers.”
